Operation Christmas Child

                                         Operation Christmas Child
Q. What is the mission of Operation Christmas Child?
·                            A. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate love                      in a tangible way to needy children around the world.

Since November is already here, H102  thought  that it would be a great month to do  lessons on having a giving and kind heart. We want to have a good understanding of what it means to be self-LESS and give to others who are less fortunate than us. After researching, we  found a great organization called, “Operation Christmas Child”.
Operation Christmas Child is geared toward helping children all over the world; even kids the same age as your child! They help other parts of the world such as Cambodia, Africa, Asia, and many more. Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced TRUE love through the power of simple shoe box gifts from Operation Christmas Child. They work with local organizations to deliver the gifts.
In class, we created shoe boxes filled with NEW school supplies, hygiene products, and NEW toys and presents for kids who are less fortunate as us. We even wrapped the boxes—good “Procedure Writing” practice! We had so much fun! Here are some things we had to research about and follow:

1.    SHOEBOX
Use an empty cardboard or plastic shoebox (average size). You can wrap the box, lid separately.
2.    BOY OR GIRL
Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child’s age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Mark the correct age category on the label and tape it to the top of your box ( I have the labels in class).
3.    FILL WITH GIFTS
Fill the box with a variety of NEW gifts that will bring delight to a child (see Suggestions below)!
Gift Suggestions
·         Toys: Include items that children will immediately embrace such as NEW dolls, toy trucks, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise (with extra batteries), hard candies (in ziplock bags), gum, mint, etc.
·         School Supplies: NEW Pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.
·         Hygiene Items: Toothbrush, mild bar soap (in a ziplock bag), comb, washcloth, etc. ( NO Liquids please).
·         Accessories: NEW T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries).
·         A Personal Note: You may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. If you include your name and address, the child may write back. I think having a pen pal would be so AWESOME!
·         Do Not Include: USED or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; out-of-date candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.

Opinion about Operation Christmas Child

Hi my name is Andre and I will be talking about Operation Christmas Child.

Anyway that means you make a shoe box with new items.

We put those items in our shoe box but we remembered that we couldn't put any war related things, glass items, and fake guns.

Our teacher told us that the items would be shipped all around the world to needy children and make their dreams come true.

We also put hygiene items like soap and toothbrushes.

It felt really good to give to needy children who don’t have anything.

THAT'S ALL FOLKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
