Ewa Long Ago

Ewa Long Ago

Hey guys this is Mark and Dhaydren. This month we are going to talk about the history of Ewa.

Ewa became popular when Benjamin Dillingham planted the first sugar cane seed. After he planted the seed he made a sugar cane plantation. It became very popular. He also built railroads to sell it and transport it from the frames to the factory where it was processed. He made lot of money. But today that business is over.

Railroads were also a main part of transportation. They were very popular and used by people to get around. The train tracks went pretty much around the whole island. They were even use to transport soldiers that were trained here. Most of the tracks and trains were given to the mainland though. But they now have it public and only use it for fun rides for people.

Pearl harbor bombing wasn't really primarily in Ewa but it was also bombed. The Japanese attacked pearl harbor on December 7th 1941. They wiped out a whole camp in Ew--full of planes for battle. Some kids were even waving at the planes because they didn't know what was happening. It was a fierce battle. There was even a film based off of it called Tora Tora Tora! It was actually filmed at barbers point.

There were many other stores and restaurants that were in Ewa long ago but aren't anymore. One example was that there was a candy shop where 7-11 is now and the prices back then were SO cheap---you could get candy for only a couple cents!

We are being inquires since we are being curious of how Ewa came to be. Also because we are getting information to acquire more knowledge. And kind of knowledgeable since we know a lot about Ewa now.

We would also like to thank Kupuna Morrow and her daughter for inspiring this blog. They came and taught us all about Ewa back in the day. Mostly all this info came from their presentation. We learned a lot and so we decided to share it with you.
