6th Grade Inventions & Businesses

Inventions
Have you ever ran a business with a group of people? Have you ever got to sell your business product in real life!? Well, the sixth graders had a fun experience doing this! The sixth grade teachers decided to give the sixth graders a project about creating their very own business and use their economic knowledge to sell and distribute a product or invention.

I will tell you what our business. To begin with, our business will try to be a sponsor of AVID and try its' best to have the students have a more organized and easier class time. We call our company the Tri- incorporate. Which goes for giving a student three times more easier class time. Each our group mates had a job. The jobs were: CEO of the company (Leader in charge, Oversee each of members), Vice President of the company (Organizer and Manages product), Graphic Designer (Prototype and Logo), Advertisement/Advertiser (Logo and Advertisement), Accountant (Money management and Product Cost). I was the Vice President of my company.

First of all, our first invention is the desk divider. This product is wooden and it is as long as the inside of the desk and the width is about one or two inches wide. I will ask you a couple of questions that are related with organization. Do you ever have a hard time finding supplies from your desk? Is there a time when you got mixed up with the things you have in your desk? Is there a time when you think your desk is too messy to handle? Well if you answer yes for most of these questions and if you have a hard time cleaning your desk or have a hard time searching things from your desk, the desk dividers would be a perfect product for you. This product will be placed between your desk (inside) and it will help you stay organized. If you're wondering what the point of this product is, I will explain. This product will help you stay organized by dividing two separate sides for your desk, and you will basically have two compartments. In this case, you will be able to know which supply is in what compartment. For example, you can put your books on the left side of the divider and your other supplies can go in the other compartment; which is supposed to be on the right side of the divider.

Secondly, our second invention is called the cubicle. The cubicle can be made out of any material that is stiff, such as laminated wood, cardboard, solid plastic and etc. Let me ask you a couple of questions related with this cubicle. Is there a time when some of your classmates cheat on a test and copy your paper or on the other hand, is there a time when you look at other students assignments and cheat? Do you get disturbed by your classmates? If you say yes to these questions, the cubicle is going to be a perfect product for you to use. The product will help you stay independent when you need to. It will hopefully prevent you from getting distracted by others or you distracting others.

Last of all, our third invention is called the "Notehouse". The "Notehouse" is a binder with a whiteboard on the front side of the binder. If you open up the binder, you will see sets of important supplies and it will contain lined paper for you to take Cornell notes because again, we are a proud user of AVID. The binder will also have two long pockets on the other side of the binder in case you would want to add extra supplies. Again, I will ask you a couple of questions. Is there a time when you forget your important school supplies at home? Do you rely on other students supplies because you always forget your own? Do you ever fell embarrassed that you keep forgetting your supplies? If you say yes to most of these questions, the "Notehouse" would be a perfect fit for you. The benefits for having this product is very easy to explain. You will never forget your school supplies again!

Now that you got to know about our company, I will explain to you about the rest of the activities the sixth graders did.

After the business presentation, the sixth graders got to stand outside of H building and set up their store We were able to advertise our products, use fake checks, and buy products!! Each sixth grader received six checks and the balance  at two hundred fifty dollars. I thought that selling the product was the most exciting part of the project because I got to have a great experience making a company thrive with a group of people. I showed the IB learner profile risk taker and open minded. I also did team work too.

In conclusion, I had a great time because working together can build great thoughts and ideas. Hopefully you got to understand our Tri- incorporate company. What will your business be and why?

The presentation and my invention--The Notehouse
Have you been hearing people talking about their 6th grade inventions or practicing their speeches? Well, here is how it went. First we got into groups. In our groups, we needed to think about a invention to make that would improve people/students life. Our invention was the "Triple Tasking Desk" & "The Notehouse".

To learn more about the "Notehouse" and the "Triple Tasking Desk", read on!

The "Triple Tasking Desk" has three purposes. First of all, there are dividers in the desk. The dividers divide the papers in the correct subject. The subjects can be anything--for example: reading in the reading subject, writing in the writing subject, math in the math subject, and etc.

Second of all, there is the cubical desk. It has walls that are made out of wood. The walls helps students focus on their work and sneaky students won't be able to cheat on a test. On a regular desk, kids can cheat easily by peaking on their paper

Third, the binder with a clean white board has strong and durable Velcro which is called the "Notehouse". It has school supplies attached to it and it is easy to take off. The school supplies will never fall off and you will feel relieved to go to school. The rings are helpful because you can put folder paper inside. If you have the "Notehouse", you will never forget your school supplies!

Each person had to talk about something in the presentation so I made the script and had equal amount of talking parts for each person. We did the presentation and people liked our invention. It was a great presentation! It was also funny because one time Diesel was about to explain the desk by sitting on the chair and speaking, but he forgot that he needed the microphone to speak and he made a mistake in that part. But it was okay. Everybody did a good job and I didn't mind one mistake since everybody tried their best and tried not to hesitate.

After the presentation, it was time to sell our idea!  We made a booth to try to sell our product. Other classes liked ours too, even though it cost $50. Kids had pretend checks and a balance of $250. It was a good business and we made more than $500! It was fun and we added up all the money and we got to see who had the most money in the class. When the results came, we won for having the most money! It was fun and I will never forget that fun moment. Plus, the "Notehouse" was a great deal! It was included with the triple tasking desk. This was a great deal and I was happy everybody liked the idea.

This shows the IB learner profile thinker, risk-taker, and open-minded. I say this because for thinker you had to think about the prices we had to make for the product. It was hard work but we did it and tried our best. Also for risk-taker, we were risk takers because we wern't sure about everything but we tried our best anyway!  Everybody was open-minded because we encouraged each other and tried to persuade people to try to buy our product.

Thank you for reading this and see you next time! I hope you enjoyed my blog.

E-R-I-K-A----Whose name is that? It's Erika!
