Our Class Pet Mr. Cray

Mr. Cray

Our little baby crayfish passed away a couple of months ago. After he died, we placed him in a small paperclip box so he could rest in peace without bugs and worms bothering him. Then we had a funeral. Our classmates Jayde, Jillian, and Kii played "Amazing Grace" and "Jingle Bells" on their fife. Then we all stood by his grave---some cried and some people felt sorry. Everybody at least got a chance to read their obituary to the class. An obituary is when you talk about their past and about their characteristics, achievements, and feelings.

Our teacher, Mrs. Matsuura bought the little baby crayfish. He was so tiny!!! When she brought the baby crayfish to our class, our class was very happy because we got another class pet. We all got to vote and decided his name to be Mr. Cray. Other options were Batman, Brownie, Bambi, and a few others. We finally decided on Mr. Cray. Some people liked the name of the crayfish and some people didn't like that name, but we all loved him. When we first placed him in his new fish tank, he looked very shy and stood still in his little cave where no one could see him. The fish feeders fed him and took care of him and a couple of months later, we found out that he wasn't moving, but that was a joke! HE WAS PLAYING DEAD!! But the bad thing is that a few weeks later, we saw Mr. Cray actually dead. When I investigated the tank, I found out that maybe he died because the rock smashed him. We picked him up with two pencils (used like a chopstick) and then we shook him. But he didn't wake up and that's how we found out he died. Mrs. Matsuura told the class to give Mr. Cray a chance to "lifen" up a bit but I already knew that he was dead. I think she was trying to cover up his death and buy a new crayfish secretly because she looked so sad!

So we made a little coffin which was a paperclip box. And then, Mrs. Matsuura told us to write an obituary for Mr. Cray. Then, we headed down to put him in a grave by G-Building. We saw that our classmates were already digging a hole for Mr. Cray and our classmates Elisa and Samantha picked flowers and leaves for him. Then, when we all gathered up to the grave, and read our obituary.

Here was mine:

Dear, Mr. Cray
You were such a shy crayfish and I always thought that you were cute because you didn't hurt people and you were actually pretty cute. I hope you had a great life. Bye. Rest in peace.

Sincerely, Skye

Here is mine:

Dear Mr. Cray,
I had always thought that you were a special crayfish. You always were very flourished and kind of small. You really never did anything but you got people to like you. I remember the time when me and Skye were fish feeders and we didn't know that we had to dump half of your water so we dumped all of your water to make it clean. That must have made you very uncomfortable to adjust your water temperature. We don't know, but I wonder if we caused you to die? We are very sorry and I hope you rest in peace.

Love: Erika(^0^)

I hope you understood our feelings and how much we all loved Mr. Cray! Did you have a class pet?
