My Favorite Book

Happy hunger games and let the odds be ever in your favor!

Hi my name is Kii. Have you ever read or watched the movie, Hunger Games?

It is such a great book! There is a lot of heroic scenes which deal with a lot of emotions.

The characters in the movie hunger games are Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Melark, Gale Hawthorne, Primrose Everdeen, Buttercup (The Cat), President Snow, Haymich, Eiffie Trinket, and The Peacekeepers.

My favorite character is Katniss because she is brave and not afraid to take risks.

In conclusion, Katniss Everdeen is a risk taker!

My name is Kii and my favorite color is light blue and my favorite food is Korean food!

Flu Shots

Flu Shot

Do you like to getting flu shots? NO thank you! I know it sounds bad, but it’s a preventative move to help you not get sick later. In school, some of us got flu or nasal shots. It was pretty uncomfortable, but I’m glad to be healthier when the flu season arrives.

Operation Christmas Child Update and THANK YOU!

The Operation Christmas Child Samaritan’s Purpose Organization gave a heartfelt THANK YOU for all of the wonderful shoe boxes filled with gifts for needy children around the world!

The purpose of this service project was to help teach the true meaning of being self-less and giving—the H102 6th graders have gone above and beyond in showcasing these traits--thank you for your never-ending support!

Here is a picture from the organization showing a child from the Philippines (in the midst of the recent typhoon) hugging her shoe box filled with necessities.

Operation Christmas Child packed shoe box gifts for children who survived Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. A cargo jet carried 65,000 boxes packed with joy to these needy boys and girls. “This is such a blessing to us,” one mother said at the distribution. “Two of my other children also received shoe boxes.”

Thank you again!

Keone’ula Drum, Fife & Flag

Keone’ula Drum, Fife & Flag

This school year the Fifth and Sixth Graders are fortunate enough to have a music class. Under the direction of Mr. Uyehara, the students were paired with an instrument, either a drum or fife. The Flag Corp is under the direction of Mrs. Baduria.

On December 21, our Drum, Fife and Flag Corp participated in the Ewa Beach Community Parade for the first time! The students marched while entertaining the community with Jingle Bells.

We had over a hundred students participate and also had KES staff members and parent volunteers who also marched in the parade! They did an awesome job!

The students were surprised to receive the First Place Plaque for the Christmas Parade!

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this possible!

Ewa Makai Middle School Band!

I am here to talk to you about the Ewa Makai Band. They are a new middle school in Ewa. They have a great band that sounds really good! They can play cool songs. You should really listen to the songs that they play!

The band has really cool instruments such as a trombone, flute, French horn, clarinet, saxophone, and also drums. The instruments were really loud-especially the drums and trombones.

The band performed at other schools in the community too. I think that the band must have been really tired from playing all day. Also there is a conductor named John Iyoki that leads the band. It was fun when Mr. Iyoki asked for a volunteer and chose Jayde from our class!

The IB Learner Profile that you need to be in a band is Balanced. You need to be Balanced because you need to play the instruments and listen to you band members to make sure you’re playing in a group and sound good. You also need to be a Risk Taker because you need to perform in front of a lot of students.  Zoe's brother, Ian is in the band and plays the French Horn--he's really good! Zoe's mom, Lynn is a busy Band Booster!

Thank you for reading my blog about the Ewa Makai Band.

Hi my name is Dhaydren and my favorite color is blue. My favorite food is spaghetti. What’s your favorite food? Also my favorite hobby is football. This is a little bit about me.

Morning Seating

Morning Seating

This blog is about the new seating arrangement in the morning.

So this new seating arrangement has been going on for about a month now.   In the morning, students have to sit in a designated spot for each class while we are waiting for the bell to ring before school. The CPO’s make sure people are sitting down. This new seating affects the F-building & the H portable kids.

The person to make this decision was Ms. Obra because kids were getting out of hand. So she had to take action.

For six grade, we sit by the portables. There are markers that shows where each class sits. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders all sit by the doors of their class on the outside of the building.
This also allows the school to ensure student safety for the students.

In my opinion, this school is getting stricter because of this and the recces changes.
